It is too!

Happy Birthday, Little Man!

My oldest kid is 7 years old!!! My sweet, smart and (still) innocent firstborn turned 7 last week and I feel bitter sweet about it. Of course I do.

I love watching him grow and learn new ideas, make new friends, discover what was previously unknown to him, find new things he’s passionate about. I love seeing him morph into this smart little man who I still get to tickle and hug and kiss without any resistance. As I watch him and marvel, I know he’ll soon grow more distant. And then I want to stop the clock.

I know how people always say that time flies when you have kids but, seriously, I remember teaching that little fella how to walk as if it were just yesterday. I can’t imagine the next 7 years going by as fast – the idea of my kids ever becoming teenagers and then adults actually freaks me out!

Needless to say, I’m trying to cherish every moment that I can for now and only hope for many more beautiful years to come!

Happy Birthday, little man!

Our Little Slice of Life

Yes, We Have Our Moments - Joanna Ciolek

I’ve known my husband for 15 years. On August 3rd this year we will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary!

And even though our days are hectic and we never seem to find ourselves alone, we manage to find happiness, love and a little slice of life we can call our own!

Happiness

Happiness - Joanna Ciolek

Happiness
It seems so simple and within reach
Looking through child’s eyes
A smile, a touch, familiar voice
Laughter

Happiness
We chase after you, restlessly
But never call our own
Lives corrupted, hurt, shifted
So we mold a new version of you to go on

Muse: Blurring the Lines Between Rock and Opera

I’ve been listening to Muse for many years now and though I admit some pieces are too heavy metal for my taste, Muse is still one of my top favorite bands. What I like about Muse if that you can’t compartmentalize their music – they are quite ambitious, mixing lots of different styles. Their music is an interesting fusion of many music genres: space rock, progressive rock, alternative rock, classical music and rock opera. In that respect they are very much like my all time favorite band, Queen!

Muse: Blurring the Lines Between Rock and Opera

Below is a perfect example of thier genius. I just love how Muse is flowing between classical and rock in this new age symphony!

Exogenesis: Symphony Part 1: Overture

Exogenesis: Symphony Part 2: Cross-Pollination

Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3: Redemption

Is It Summer Yet?

Is It Summer Yet?
I shouldn’t really complain – winter this year has been unprecedentedly warm. But here I am, longing for summer, again. Can you blame me? Summer is easy, energized, optimistic, fun. Winter, as romantic as it may be, is overrated.

Sun, Water & Culinary Heaven That Is Italian Food

Sun, Water & Culinary Heaven That Is Italian Food
South Beach Park, Ft. Lauderdale, FL where we spent one January afternoon splashing in the water, collecting seashells, digging in the sand and just relaxing. Followed by a late dinner at the magnificent Corelli’s Pizza & Pasta – small mom & pop shop that we stumbled upon by a chance. I’m not sure what I miss more, the ocean or that heavenly culinary experience!

Finding Grace in Every Day #6

Finding Grace in Every Day - Joanna Ciolek It’s been a little bit difficult to be grateful these days. Lost opportunities, lost jobs, lost income, lethargic economy, cold winter… but enough with the negatives. These days I try to remind myself that we are fine, healthy and together and that’s all that matters.

Sometimes watching news helps too – there’s just so much bad shit happening out there it’s impossible not to feel like we’re the lucky ones.

Finding Grace in Every Day #6

Today I am thankful for:

  • That feeling when I wake up only to find my mom busy in the kitchen, making the whole house smell like pancakes.
  • Not gaining ton of weight despite my obvious lack of self-control when it comes to M&Ms.
  • Knowing that winter will end soon.
  • My son’s transformation into this goofy, funny, happy pre-teen I can hardly recognize.
  • My husband’s love.
  • Grandma’s recipe for the most tasty home made bread I will ever eat.
  • Long baths.
  • Catching up on favorite tv shows while taking long baths.
  • Running into an old friend in a grocery store.
  • My child shouting “No, I love you more, more, more” as I tickle him endlessly.
  • Those moments when everything is peaceful and in order.
  • My electric heater.
  • That even during the most chaotic moments I am happy with the way things are.

What are you grateful for?
