We’ve been thinking about getting a puppy ever since my oldest child would not leave our friends’ dog alone at last year’s New Years Eve party. He would just pet that thing the entire time we were there. Since then, I must have heard “Mommy, can we get a puppy?” a million times.
At first, I was on the fence. I had enough on my plate as it was – my life did not need to be any more hectic. Unfortunately, once the idea invaded my mind, I started thinking, weighting in pros and cons and mulling it over. Until a few days later I said naively, “Let’s go see some puppies”. And that’s how it all started.
Couple of weeks later…
Roxy, our Golden Retriever puppy, came home two weeks ago. She’s cute and smart and kids can’t get enough of her.
I know she’ll be great for the kids and I’m already enjoying that special bond that’s forming between the two of us.
Best part? My 5yo who is the most attached to her right now has finally stopped asking me to make him a new baby (not a baby brother, mind you, but his own baby that I’d make for him)! Yep, it’s been the only he has asked me for in the past year. So I’m thinking, a puppy is a great alternative I can handle just fine!
